Pumpkin Picking....

I have been pumpkin picking but unfortunately it was not in a pumpkin patch....I kept thinking that the color orange used in the pumpkins on my sampler (see post below) was kind of bright compared to the rest of the colors. For some unknown reason I put a bobbin of 720 in my floss bag even though the pattern doesn't use it at all. I must have been stitching and not really payign attention, saw the orange and just assumed it was for the pumpkins. Picking those couple of pumpkins out of 28 ct material stitched over one was a lot harder and took alot more time then picking pumpkins in the field. Going to get them put back in today and hopefully get some more of the verse done.

Reading Steals My Stitching Mojo....

The biggest reason my stitching is suffering this year has been due to my Kindle. I received a Kindle 2 as an early Christmas present last November and it has been the best gift ever. I have always loved to read but the Kindle allows me to read whatever I want when I want without having to run to get dressed and run to the bookstore or library. Nothing like lying in bed finishing a book and within a couple of minutes reading the next book in the series just because you have to know what happens! It syncs with my iPod touch so no matter which device I read on, I just open the book and start from where I left off. I have read 29 books so far this year and my love for reading just continues to grow. And yes, occassionally I still go to the library and take out a book, just for the smell of it :)

Quick Update Pumpkin Patch....

Here is a quick update on my Pumpkin Patch piece by Prairie Schooler. I am stitching this over one on 28 ct lambswool. The scissors in the photo are the small 4" ones and I put them in the photo to give you a better idea of the true size.

We are off to Unity today to watch the car races, hope the weather stays nice and we see alot of action :)

Twashi, Tribbles and A Dishcloth Oh My...

I have a hard time passing up good sales and it seems every time cotton yarn is on sale for $1 a skein, I just can't resist so I end up with oodles of it in my closet. I am trying to use up some of the stuff that is in my closet and am bored with doing the same ol pattern for dishcloths so I spent some time browsing the internet and found this cute snowbaby cloth pattern on Ravelry.
It was very quick to knit up and I think I am going to make another one and give them to a co-worker at Christmas time to tuck into her grand daughter's Christmas Stockings. I think it is just too cute to use for a dishcloth and I am sure they will like it.

I also found two similar patterns a knit one called a tribble and a crochet one called a twashi, both are for washing dishes. They each use small amount of yarn, work up quick and were fun to make. I can't decide which one I like better, I thought the crochet one was easier to finish but I like the size of the knit one better so I may just try to make the crochet one bigger. The crochet one also seems sturdier and tighter so I am thinking it would hold its shape better.

I haven't tried them washing dishes yet but I paln to make more and I can picture a small basket of them on the counter brightening up my kitchen. The crochet pattern can be found Here

Peace on Earth Finished...

I am happy to report that I finally got this one finished up, sometimes the smallest pieces seem to take the longest!

I went looking thru some other projects I had started and pulled out my Pumpkin Patch piece byPrairie Schooler to work on. I plan to keep working on it until I get it finished up but some of those ornaments from the new Just Cross Stitch Christmas Preview magazine keep hollering to me I really need to find some will power :)

Making Progress....

Yesterday, I worked on Peace on Earth and managed to get the whole house done except for one window. I am stitching it over one on 25 count white evenweave with DMC threads. Finished size will be too big for an ornament so I am thinking it will either be a flat fold or small hanging. Off to finish "installing" the last window :)

First Finishes of 2010...

It appears that 2010 will not be the year of stitching for me....I haven't had much desire to stitch since last fall. I started this piece back in February and thought it would be a quick stitch, boy was I wrong! It took me more than TWO months to finish it. I really liked the bright colors and it is much brighter than it looks in the photo. The design is from the Girls Trio leaflet from Imaginating. I stitched it on 18 ct white aida with DMC threads.

I also competed this cute little snowman ornament from the leaflet Snowmen and Santas by Prairie Schooler. I had been wanting to do this one since it came out. I stitched this one over 2 on 32 ct Summer Khaki evenweave using DMC threads. This ornament is a little bigger than I like but I will just have to find a bigger spot for him :) I wish designers would make ornament designs to be ornament size...unless you have a huge tree alot of designs are way too big unless you stitch them over one on a higher count cloth, which I do but sometimes when stitching over one the lighter colors get lost in the piece.

I am currently working on Peace on Earth from the Songs of the Season leaflet by Prairie Schooler. I am hoping now that I am on vacation for the summer and life is a bit slower I will get back in the groove on my stitching.

Kniting Dishcloths....

Yesterday afternoon I decided to dig out my knitting bag and work some more on some dishcloths. I had originally started these last fall to give to some co-workers for Christmas but just didn't get them done in time so I have a good head start on this Christmas. I am planning to make sets of three dishcloths, two solid color basket weave ones and one in a different pattern with variegated yarn that matches the solid colors. I have been looking at some of the patterns for pot scrubbers made with nylon but not sure if I could figure it out.

This morning it is lightly snowing and the sun is shining too...we have only had a trace of snow so far for the month of February and many areas are now bare. The temps have been above average and yesterday an ice fishing derby in Southern Maine was halted after seven people went thru the ice, thankfully, they are alright. Ed and Tyler went North Thursday to go snowmobiling and are now on their way home, if we don't get a snow storm soon, they may have already taking their last ride of the season. It sure has been a strange winter.
